LAHAUL VALLEY
The valley of Lahaul also known as Chandra Bhaga Valley, occupies the trough between the central and inner Himalayas. It is separated from Zanskar by snowy mountain ranges of the great Himalayan divide and from Kullu valley by the central Himalayan range. Lahaul has a central mass of high mountains and vast glaciers. With hundreds of peaks above 6000 metres, it is a 'Mountaineers' Paradise'. There are a few passes that connect Lahaul valley with Kullu valley, Rohtang Pass being the most popular. Other passes are Hamta Pass and Sara Umga-Ia Lahaul valley is also connected to Zanskar and Ladakh by Baralacha-Ia and Shinglo-Ia Passes.

SPITI VALLEY
Spiti also called "PITI" is bounded on its south and west by the valleys of Kullu apd Lahaul. The region of Ladakh lies to the north and the Kalpa lies to the south-east. Geologically and archaeologically, Spiti is a living museum. The mountains are devoid of any vegetation and erosion by wind, sun and snow over thousands of years has laid bare the rocks. The rugged and rocky mountain slopes sweep down to the river beds giving the landscape a moon-like appearance. Spiti is formed by the Spiti river which rises on the slopes of Kunzum-Ia and ends at the rivers confluence with the Parechu near Sumdo. Approaching from Manali, the Lahaul side gets you to Loser village, 19 km from Kunzum-Ia. Special permits are required to enter Loser village or to go beyond it.

NUBRA VALLEY
The Nubra Valley lies north of Leh and is accessible over the Khardung la (18,380 feet/ 5,600 m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The Valley was on the caravan route from Leh to Kashgar via the Saser and Karakorcull passes. Apart from unparalleled trekking opportunities, the valley houses several Buddhist monasteries such as Sumur (Khagar) and the 350 year-old Diskit gompa, famous for its rnurals. Nubra is also known for its two humped Bectrian camel which is found in these parts. The camels are len to graze in the jungle during the summer months and are brought back only during the Winter months when they are used as beasts of burden and for their wool.
