SPITI VALLEY
Spiti also called "PITI" is bounded on its south and west by the
valleys of Kullu apd Lahaul. The region of Ladakh lies to the north and the
Kalpa lies to the south-east. Geologically and archaeologically, Spiti is
a living museum. The mountains are devoid of any vegetation and erosion by
wind, sun and snow over thousands of years has laid bare the rocks. The
rugged and rocky mountain slopes sweep down to the river beds giving the landscape
a moon-like appearance. Spiti is formed by the Spiti river which rises on
the slopes of Kunzum-Ia and ends at the rivers confluence with the Parechu
near Sumdo. Approaching from Manali, the Lahaul side gets you to Loser village,
19 km from Kunzum-Ia. Special permits are required to enter Loser village
or to go beyond it.
NUBRA VALLEY
The Nubra Valley lies north of Leh and is accessible over the Khardung la
(18,380 feet/ 5,600 m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The
Valley was on the caravan route from Leh to Kashgar via the Saser and Karakorcull
passes. Apart from unparalleled trekking opportunities, the valley houses
several Buddhist monasteries such as Sumur (Khagar) and the 350 year-old
Diskit gompa, famous for its rnurals. Nubra is also known for its two humped
Bectrian camel which is found in these parts. The camels are len to graze
in the jungle during the summer months and are brought back only during the
Winter months when they are used as beasts of burden and for their wool.

Spiti Valley to Leh Jeep Safari
Day 2 Delhi/Chandigarh/Shimla
Early morning transfer to airport to board flight for Chandigarh. Arrive Chandigarh
and drive to Shimla (2030 m). Met on arrival in Shimla and transfer to hotel
for overnight stay.
Day 3 ` Shimla/Sarahan Jeep
Morning after breakfast start jeep safari to reach Sarahan (1920 m) via Narkanda
(2690 m). Sarahan is a beautifully located township amid mountains with Shrikhand
Mahadev Peak (5155 m) looming as a backdrop. Visit Bhimakali temple, a rare
combination of Buddhist and Hindu architecture. The main idol of the goddess
is about 200 yrs old. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 4 Sarahan/Sangla Jeep
Morning after breakfast start safari to reach Sangla (2680 m). Arrive and
camp on the bank of River Baspa. Sangla has houses on a slope built one upon
another with Kinner Kailash peak (6600 m) dominantly situated in the background.
Visit the nearby Kamru Fort, now dedicated to Kamakshi Temple. Overnight stay
in tents.
Day 5 SanglaiChitkul Pass/Puh Jeep
Morning after breakfast start safari to reach Chitkul Pass (3436 m/26 kms).
Arrive and spend some time over the Sangla pass to have panoramic view of
surroundings. This pass opens routes to Garhwal Himalayas. After lunch drive
to Puh (3200 m). Close to Tibetan border Puh lies in rian shadow region. situated
on the confluence of Spiti and Sutlej, it is famous for grapes, wood carving
and d(>()dar trees. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 6 Puh/Kaza Jeep
Morning after breakfast start safari to reach Kaza (3450 m). En route visit
Tabo Monastery (3200 m). Apparently it is an ordinary mud structure but inside
it has beautiful frescoes which earned Tabo the epithet of "Ajanta of
Himalayas". Reach Kaza in the evening. Overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 7 Kaza/Kibber/Bt;ltal Jeep
Morning after breakfast visit Kyi Monastery (4116 m/ 11 kms). The Monastery
of Spiti with rare paintings and scriptures. The scriptures are written in
Bhoti language the mother tongue of Bhotias who came from Tibet to Spiti to
spread Buddhism in the area. Further drive to Kibber village (4400 m/9 kIns)
the highest village in the world. Interact with the local people and visit
one of the houses to observe the simple but systematic construction. After
lunch drive to Batal (3960 m) via Kunzum Pass (4551 m). Arrive Batal in the
evening. Overnight stay in the tent.
Day 8 Batal/Darcha Jeep
Morning after breakfast start safari to reach Oarcha (3400 m) Stop just after
Batal to photograph Bara Shingri Glacier (3657 m). Eri route visit Khardong
Monastery at Keylong (3350 m). Keylong is an "oasis of greenfields'~.
Reach Darcha in the evening and camp beside river Bhaga for overnight stay.
Day 9 DarchaiPang Jeep
Morning after breakfast continue the jeep safari to reach Pang (4630 m) via
Baralacha Pass (4885 m). The word Baralacha means "a pass with cross
roads". The pass has roads coming from Zanskar, Ladakh, Spiti and Lahaul.
Stop for photographs at "Suraj Tal" (4800 m) a serene lake and source
of river Bhaga. Reach Pang in the evening and overnight stay in the tents.
Day 10 Pang/Leh Jeep
Morning after breakfast start safari to reach Leh (3523 m) via K yungshu Plains
stretched along the road for 45 kms. Here the sheep like animal K yung could
be seen. En route stop for a while at Tanglang-Ia (5360 m), the highest pass
in the world with the metalled road.
Arrive and check into the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 11 Leh Jeep
Morning after breakfast city sightseeing of Leh. Visit Sankar Compa, King's
Palace, Bazaar etc.
Day 12 Leh/Delhi
Morning after breakfast transfer to airport to board flight for Delhi. Met
upon arrival and transfer to international airport in time to board flight
for onward destination.
